Yesterday my fiancee, Iona, and I were married in a pretty village on the northeast coast of Scotland. The pews were filled with family and friends, and it was a moving and a joyous occasion. Yet our exchange of vows was not the only significant event remembered in that small church in Edzell, near Montrose, on a quiet September afternoon.

For some of those present it was also a reminder of what took place far away on a moonless night in the Eastern Mediterranean almost 70 years ago: an act of heroism that changed the course of the Second World War. And without which there would have been no wedding. for more click here
