His devastatingly clear eyesight saw him hailed a hero – the highest scoring night fighter in the Second World War. Legendary fighter John ‘Cat’s Eyes’ Cunningham downed at least 20 German bombers over the English Channel and became a hero of the RAF for his ability to see in the dark and for his skill and bravery.
