The Gentleman’s Magazine Library, 1731-1868

The Gentleman’s Magazine was founded in London in 1731. It was published monthly until 1907 and was distributed throughout the English-speaking world. The magazine covered a wide variety of topics in essays, biographies, articles, illustrations, poetry, reports, and historical passages. From 1731-1868 the magazine included listings of births, marriages, and deaths.

This database contains “a classified collection of the chief contents of the Gentleman’s Magazine from 1731 to 1868.” Excerpts from the original publications containing local history and information, topographical details, and family history are presented here, organized into volumes by county.
