Mary Ann goes to court

On 7 December 1880 Mary Ann and her father, David Lindsay, a mason, raised an action against William in Paisley Sheriff Court. They claimed that Mary Ann, by now 19 years old, was entitled to lying-in expenses and alimony as well as compensation because William, also 19, had seduced her by promising marriage. for more click here
