Defying the desecrators: The moving stories behind stolen plaques for the fallen

For the best part of a century, it was a noble exhortation. Now, it just looks like a sick joke. Above the Carshalton War Memorial is the inscription: ‘Their Name Liveth For Evermore.’

Not any more, it doesn’t.

Today, the stonework might as well say: ‘Their Name Counteth For Nothing Because Some Lowlife Wanted A Few Quid.’
