Since the 15th century, pioneering Scottish spirits have left their familiar shores to embark on new lives. Some for business opportunities and trading purposes, some for necessity and survival. Scratch the surface of any town, city or village in Scotland and a wealth of stories of departures and homecomings, of upheaval and change and of fortunes made and lost will be revealed. Shoots of enterprise, innovation and opportunity have spread from Scotland to the rest of the world.
