Access to maps and plans at West Register House

Access to several thousand topographical, architectural and engineering plans at the National Archives of Scotland (NAS) will be affected by a change in storage arrangements over the next few months.
The plans are those referenced RHP1-5999, which are normally stored at West Register House (WRH), in Charlotte Square, Edinburgh. These have been temporarily transferred to our outstore at Thomas Thomson House on the outskirts of Edinburgh. This move has been carried out to allow the existing plan chests to be upgraded.

Until this work is completed these plans will be made available in the West Search Room at WRH at 24 hours’ notice.

To find out more about our maps and plans collection read our guide to topographical, architectural and engineering plans. To search our collection of maps and plans use our online catalogue or visit our search rooms, where you can search our catalogues and consult our records.

The National Archives of Scotland welcomes gifts of plans or other documents recording the history of Scotland, the land and its peoples. If you have records you are considering depositing with the NAS, please contact us.
