Reenactors reconstruct Civil War winter huts

Re-enactors in full Confederate military uniform will be reconstructing Civil War huts at James Madison’s Montpelier on Saturday, Jan. 17.
The public is invited to drop in any time between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the woods directly behind the Gilmore Cabin and Farm on Route 20, four miles south of Orange to view this very special reconstruction project.
Between five and 10 re-enactors will be building an officer’s hut and an enlisted soldier’s hut just like those used during the Civil War, and in the same location as that occupied by General Samuel McGowan’s South Carolinians in the winters of 1863 and 1864. for more click here
