Don’t overlook occupations when doing genealogy research

This week as my husband and I drove down Tecumseh Avenue toward Flood Avenue. We crossed a railroad track and I noticed railroad ties lying near the track. My comment was that we were going to get new ties on the track and my husband said they would need the gandy dancers for that.

Most of us have seen movies where the gandy dancers were working on the railroad and listened to the rhythm of their song as they worked. Because of my interest in etymology I began to wonder about the origin of the name gandy dancers. for more click here
