WINGING IT IN WALES

In the summer of 1991, I decided to combine a pleasure trip with family history search in England and Wales.

Henry Herbert, my great-grandfather, came to the U.S. from Ireland as a young man in the 1870s. According to the minimal research I had done, my Irish Herberts descended from Sir Richard Herbert of Coldbrook, in Monmouthshire, Wales. Sir Richard was the younger brother of William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke. They were sons of William ap Thomas and Gwladys Gam. Both brothers lost their lives (and their heads) after being defeated at the Battle of Banbury in 1469 during the War of the Roses. for more click here
