Local genealogical society celebrates 25th birthday

SAN MATEO — As a little girl, Julie Mooney’s father would regale her with stories about her great-great-grandfather’s first stagecoach line that traveled from present-day Belmont over the hills to Half Moon Bay and Pescadero in 1859.

The branches of Mooney’s family tree have the county’s first pioneers arriving even before the Gold Rush, when would-be prospectors traveled to California by ship or covered wagons. To this day, the 60-year-old Burlingame resident carries a huge amount of pride for Rueben Morris, who came from Indiana and ran stagecoaches in San Mateo County before Wells Fargo did in San Francisco. Morris also was one of the first constables in San Mateo. for more click here.
