Civil War soldier to be reburied in Huntington

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Transportation discovered an unusual obstacle last summer when constructing the new State Route 35 in Putnam County, W.Va.; one that has brought a Burlington resident closer than she ever thought possible to a family member she never knew.

Last summer, the Gillispie-Roach Cemetery containing Union Civil War Private Roland Gillispie, was found directly in the path of the new highway. Other graves dating back to the early 19th century, both marked and unmarked, were also found at the site. for more click here
