For some churchyards there are monumental inscriptions available. These are transcripts of the information taken from the tombstones or monuments. Please see our list of monumental inscriptions for details of our holdings. Bear in mind that many urban churchyards were closed in the nineteenth century and burials began to take place in new municipal cemeteries. Wolverhampton’s first municipal cemetery at Jeffcock Road opened in 1850.
