Who is a Cherokee? Many Americans have Indians in the family tree

The Oklahoma Cherokee Nation’s vote last weekend to remove African-Americans from official tribal membership made news in the U.S. and around the world.

In a special election Saturday, 76 percent of the 270,000 members of the Cherokee Nation voted to remove the black “freedmen” from official tribal membership. for more click here
