Descendants of slaves may live in Ulster

A book by a local author about the history of Donaghadee in Co Down has claimed the descendants of Scottish slaves may still live in the seaside town.

The historian Harry Allen described his latest publication, Donaghadee - An Illustrated History - as a labour of love.

Among the many events he unearthed while researching the book, Mr Allen discovered that, in 1739, a cargo of “slaves” taken from their homes in the Scottish Isles escaped their fate after a boat on which they were travelling stopped in the seaside town before making the hazardous Atlantic crossing to America. for more click here
