War hero fight over, says iwi

More than 60 years after Haane Manahi’s World War II exploits, the battle over his proper recognition has been settled, Te Arawa people say.

Spokesman John Marsh said they were pleased by Defence Minister Phil Goff’s announcement that a member of the royal family would present an altar cloth, a letter from the Queen acknowledging Mr Manahi’s bravery, and a sword.
