The Nicolson Family

My great-grandfather, Andrew Nicolson, and his bride, Jane (Stove) Nicolson moved to Leith in 1887 or 1888 from the Shetland Islands and lived in various addresses around Leith. They had eight children, Jeremiah, Margaret, Jane, Catherine and Mary Ann (twins), John and Wiliam (twins, although William died at one year old–July 29, 1900) and Louise. My great grandfather died March 11th, 1908, and great grandmother remarried July 18th, 1913, to James Leslie (a widower and mason/journeyman as was my grandfather.) Jane (Stove Nicolson) Leslie then died on April 3rd 1936 with her daughter Margaret signing off of the death certificate. Margaret (whose first name was Jemima) married James Matheson in March, 1919, and they were married at South Leith Parish Church. She is reported to have been a “boot examiner” and he a “marine engineer.” I have one other marriage certificate for another child, John Nicolson, residing then at 329 Easter Road, Leith, who married Elizabeth Sommerville Farley, then residing at 27 Iona Street, Letih, in 1925. I would love to be able to make some connections to any descendents that might still live here or in Edinburgh
