We go tomorrow

The setting resembles an English country lane at the height of summer. But this is France, and these are first world war soldiers, in new regulation steel helmets, assembled, waiting for an attack. Hazy, early-morning sunlight filters through the foliage, and if some of the men wear expressions of jaunty cheerfulness – perhaps as an antidote to fear – others appear to be preparing themselves for an uncertain future.for more click here
