There will be no veterans marching to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme next weekend.

The last soldier to have fought in this, the longest, biggest and most costly land battle in British history, died last year. Unlike those of us who grew up with fathers or grandfathers who fought in the Great War, the children now studying its literature and history have no human link to the events of 1914-18.for more click here
