BENTLEY

For all you genealogists out there who have an interest in the BENTLEY surname, especially from the West Riding of Yorkshire, then this is the place to be! BENTLEY is a topographical surname, combining the Old English terms bent (or beonet) and leah, meaning “bent grass” and “clearing” (in a wood). Early records locate a William de Benetlega in Derbyshire in 1176, however you will find from records available on this site that the name was very much associated with the Yorkshire area. for more click here
