Royal Commission for Ancient and Historical Monuments

The Royal Commission for Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) records and interprets the Archaeological sites, monuments and buildings of Scotlands past and promotes them through the National Monuments Record of Scotland (NMRS)

The NMRS is a primary source for members of the public carrying out local or family history research, for architects, archaeologists, students and many other researchers. Enquiries regularly relate to a person or clan and these can often be traced to an ancestral home, castle or a more humble abode. The NMRS can source Maps, images, locations and other useful information
