Witchcraft trials in Scotland

The Web Site “Witchcraft Trials in Scotland” has been compiled by Dr E. H. Thompson of the University of Dundee.

The page contains essays on the following subjects: Macbeth, King James and the Witches; the woodblock illustrations of “Newes from Scotland”; a chronology of dates and reports on the North Berwick witchcraft trials of 1590-1594; and the Earl of Bothwell’s genealogy (not yet posted at the time of cataloguing).

Permission to cite the works is given on the site. Dr Thompson provides an interesting insight into various aspects of Scottish witchcraft including the literary and conceptual portrayals of witchcraft, the iconography of witchcraft and the involvement of the Earl of Bothwell. The site is excellent for those researching or studying witchcraft or Scottish history.
