McCulloch family

The earliest known McCullochs lived near Straiton, Ayr, in southwest Scotland in the mid 1700’s and 1800’s. Later McCullochs of this line lived in or near Carsphairn, Kirkudbright, not far from Straiton. Many of the McCulloch males were masons and traveled the countryside building dry stone dykes (stone walls) in addition to other types of masonry. About 1880, William McCulloch, son of Hugh, moved across the Firth of Clyde to Campbeltown, Argyll, along with his sons Hugh, Thomas, James, Robert, William and Andrew.

My great grandfather, Robert McCulloch, married Isabella Montieth Torrance and was a stone mason. They lived in Campbeltown and raised their family. Many of this McCulloch family eventually moved away from Campbeltown, some to the Paisley, Renfrew area, some to Irvine, Ayr, and some who emigrated to the United States.

The following chart is by no means complete, but my hope is that it may be an aid in connecting with others that descend from this line. I am interested in learning all I can of this family and hope you will contact me if you wish to exchange information
