Historic Scotland

Historic Scotland welcomes visitors from around the world to more than 300 historic sites in our care. Both irreplaceable and precious, each property is a wonderful reflection of Scotland’s intriguing history, one that takes you over 5000 years.

The best visitor experience

A range of intriguing properties await our visitors from our best preserved group of Stone Age houses in Western Europe, built around 3000BC at Skara Brae, Orkney to great royal castles and monuments to Scotland’s industrial heritage, including Dallus Dhu Historic Distillery, built in 1898 near Forres.

Interesting Interpretation at our sites aim to help visitors learn more about the property and we also support wider accessibility for all. In addition, our popular Events programme of colourful activities all aim to offer you the best visitor experience possible.

Support us

Historic Scotland is the nation’s largest operator of paid visitor attractions and the agency continues to make new properties available to the public. Admissions we charge provide us with income to help towards the cost of maintaining and repairing all of Scotland’s built heritage.

Should you support us through a Friends membership, you can also enjoy free entry to over 300 stunning properties.
