Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

College founded in 1599, Library in 1698. The Library provides a service to fellows and members and all interested in the history of medicine, particularly in Glasgow and the west of Scotland. Written, email, and fax inquiries are welcome. The library’s online catalogue is available at http://www.rcpsglasg.ac.uk/library/cataloguestart.htm. Please note that only about 3,000 out of a total of 35,000 items are available via this means. Please contact the librarian for further information.

Ca.25,000 20th century books on medicine and surgery and their specialties. Papers of eminent local and national practitioners, including Sir Ronald Ross, Sir William Macewen, and Dr. William Mackenzie. Ca.300 16th century books, 2,000 17th century, 8,000 18th century, 12,000 19th century (not exact figures). Some 50 separate collections in archives. Libraries relating to individuals also exist within the Library, and a number are currently being identified.
