History of Whisky

The Whisky`s pedigree dates back at least 500 years to the time when malt liquor first began to be distilled in Scotland. Since then the history of Scotch whisky has been exciting and eventful, with distillers endlessly struggling, often against appalling odds, to ensure that this essential water of life reached those who appreciate its quality and distinction. Am Baile

This morning I recieved an email from Jamie Gaukroger introducing Am Baile – www.ambaile.org.uk. A beautifully crafted and informative site launched in May 2003. It attempts to inform and educate visitors in the history of the culture of the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

They have done considerable painstaking work in collecting large numbers of photographs, illustrations, rare books and documents as well as short films, sounds, interactive games and comics. You will find material from archives, libraries, museums and private collections, much of it published here for the first time. Click here to continue

The Lineage of the British Royal Family

Burkes Peerage have just announced the expansion of their British Royal Lineages pages. With the period from 1603 and King James I of England/James VI of Scotland up to William IV in 1837 is now available to view.

The extensive records include Royals and their immediate families (where known). Genealogies are presented in the same format as the 7,000 family records in Burke’s database with indented and colour coded generations for ease of access.

Burkes Peerage tells us that this is merely another step in their aim to be the comprehensive resource for all things related to the UK and Irish titled families with more to be add soon
